Lighten Up: How to Create a Newsfeed People Love
Strategy. Campaign. Analysis.
What do these three words have in common when it comes to marketing? I can sum it up in one word:
Boring.
If you're struggling to get traction on your business's newsfeed, there could be a very good reason for that: You're not providing what your clients want to see.
Yes, it's important to promote your business, your custom content, and your thoughts about your industry. But it's also important to create a space that people want to actually be in.
It's not all about you
If you've been thinking that your social media newsfeed should be about promoting your business, I'm sorry to tell you that you're going about this backwards.
The whole point is to create and share content for your client; in other words, don't just write stuff that you think they should know, create and post things that they want to see.
Your social media newsfeed should reflect who your ideal client is. So, if all you're providing them with is industry information, but your client is also a parent or a homeowner or an alien from outer space...you're not creating a space they want to come back to over and over again.
Yes, in my newsfeed I will post this blog about about attracting more people to your newsfeed; that speaks to my expertise in social media. But I also share funny quotes about work, parenting, and other things that I think my ideal client will think is funny. They'll want to share it. And they'll want to visit my page again.
Here are a few things I've posted recently:
One of my blogs.
A funny picture I shared from someone else's newsfeed.
And an inspirational quote.
In other words, let go a little bit. It doesn't ALL have to be perfectly formatted the exact same way using a certain formula. Let it be a little more organic.
So, how do you accomplish this?
1. Keep your eye out for posts on other newsfeeds that you think would be a good fit for yours. When you share it or repost it, tag the person or business you got it from. That's a little goodwill for you and a little free marketing for them!
2. If it's something that made you laugh or think or that inspired you, chances are it will inspire someone else. Add in the "share" something about why the picture, article, or quote caught your eye.
3. LET GO. Seriously. Just get on social media and click away on that "share" button!
4. Think of your social media newsfeed as a room. Do people feel welcome there? Is there any reason for them to come back?
