  • With AI, do I even need a content writer?
AI is fantastic! We use it, too. But we don't just copy and paste what it generates. It still needs a human touch. Making what AI has given you funny (or evoking some sort of emotion), adding a storytelling element, and adding statistics with outbound links should all be part of your content strategy. Not only that, but AI is not the most current...and is not always correct. Many broker-dealers do not want any stats that are more than three years old and sometimes AI generates that. It's also been known to give the wrong numbers in financial planning pieces (yikes). Yes, it can be used. But it doesn't replace good, personal content.
  • How often should I update my website?
You should consider at least a refresh every 2 years. There are several reasons for this: Your business evolves so sometimes your ideal client has changed. Your team members and/or your own bio might have changed. Website trends change and you want to stay current.
  • My broker-dealer has a regular newsletter that goes out and I just have to press "send." Can't I just use that?
Well...you can, but we wouldn't recommend that as an email marketing strategy. Most broker-dealer/pre-approved compliance emails aren't highlighting you and your business. They have general articles that might not necessarily apply to your ideal client. Not only that, but you're driving traffic from that newsletter to ANOTHER website - you're not getting the benefit of it at all. Your current and potential clients want to know what YOU think. They want to get to know you. Using custom emails that drive traffic to your website not only increases your search ranking, it makes it easier for the audience to contact you for an appointment.
  • I only have 20 contacts. Should I wait to start email outreach?
Let me put this in a way that you - the financial advisor - will understand. If I told you I only had $5,000 to invest would you tell me to wait? No! You'd tell me to start investing! With the right strategy, your email list will grow. In the meantime, reach out to the contacts you DO have. One of the ways it could grow (and you could get new business) is by a current contact forwarding your message on to a friend or family member. It's also good to get in the habit of emailing on a regular schedule as soon as possible.
  • I'm worried I might bother people with too many emails. Should I stop or cut back?
NO. You might think that email marketing is dead, but we assure you it's not. In fact, many financial planning clients complain that they don't hear enough from their advisors. Since COVID, Social Seed Marketing clients have seen consistent 50-60% open rates on their emails (a "good" open rate is usually 28-35%). What does this tell us? YOUR CLIENTS WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU. There's a lot of uncertainty out there and they need trusted resources.
  • But I don't want to spam them!
Awesome! Then don't! Spam is generally content that annoys us or that wastes our time. It's important that you don't send emails just to send emails. We'll help ensure that what you're sending is important to your clients.
  • How often should I post on social media?
Our general rule is three times per week. If you have more going on that you'd like to share, go for it! We use a mix of custom content that's hosted on your website (more traffic for you!), outside articles that are applicable to your ideal client, and custom graphics to make your newsfeed eye-catching. Why? Because we want you to come across as a resource, and not too sales-y.
  • What social media platforms should I be on?
We recommend that all of our financial planning clients be active at least on LinkedIn. Beyond that, it's important that you think about two things: Where you like to be naturally. Where your ideal client is. For example, you probably don't need to be on Instagram if your ideal clients are men over 55 years old. That's not where they are. However, if you naturally like interacting on Instagram or Facebook or whatever Twitter is called when you're reading this, feel free to create a social media presence there! It's SOCIAL media, so wherever you feel social...go for it!
  • Should I get as many followers as possible?
That can depend on the platform. If you're creating videos on TikTok, then sure. Go viral! But trends have changed when it comes to vanity "likes" on many social media platforms. Rather than having thousands of followers, it's important to have quality contacts who engage with you and are likely to share what you're posting.
